Day 136: A Divided Kingdom and Two Leadership Lessons
Today we read 1 Kings 12, 2 Chronicles 10-11, and Song of Solomon 1. In this story, we’ve gone back to the narrative of Israel as a kingdom that was united under David and then Solomon, but now, the story is going to turn; as was promised as a result of Solomon’s heart change and failure to follow God. We are now headed for a divided kingdom story. Divided between themselves and largely pulling away from God. The northern kingdom often called Israel with 10 of the tribes and their capital in Samaria and the southern kingdom which consisted of the tribe of Judah and Benjamin with their capital in Jerusalem. We learned the risk and result of King Rahaboam seeking the advise and confirmation he wants to hear and King Jaraboam making his own religion for the 10 tribes of Israel to maintain the security of his kingship and avoid the people returning to Jerusalem.
